The VRF technology/system was developed and designed by Daikin Industries, Japan who named and protected the term variable refrigerant volume (VRV) system so other manufacturers use the term VRF 'variable refrigerant flow'. In essence both are same. With a higher efficiency and increased controllability, the VRF system can help achieve a. Introducing a new series of heat recovery air conditioners with improved essential functions, advanced compressor and a streamline fan that meets energy-saving requirements. Mitsubishi Electric continues to improve air conditioning quality and provide its customers with next-generation solutions. The new structural design has a 4-face air induction design and improved core components, such as compressor and fan, significantly improving energy-saving performance.

New design

The new outdoor units of the YNW series adopt a four-sided heat exchanger mounted on the upper part of the module near the fan. The new design allows air to be taken in effectively increasing the heat exchanger’s efficiency.

Software

Heat recovery system

Mitsubishi Electric introduced the World’s first 2-pipe heat recovery system, reducing piping and connections compared with 3-pipe systems.

How does the R2 / WR2 heat recovery system work with the two pipes?

The secret of the VRF CITY MULTI heat recovery system lies in the BC controller. The BC controller contains a liquid / gas separator that allows the outdoor unit to produce a mixture (in two phases) of hot gas for heating and of liquid for cooling through the same pipe. Systems with three tubes use a tube for each of these phases. When it reaches the BC controller, the mixture is separated and the correct phase is sent to each indoor unit according to individual heating or cooling needs.

Heat recovery for high efficiency

With the heat recovery system, the more frequently the simultaneous cooling and heating function is used, the higher the energy savings achieved.

Why use heat recovery mode?

When choosing a heat recovery system, flexibility and effectiveness are key factors. For example, while a heat pump system is suitable for an office with large open-space, in an office with a structure with more subdivisions it is necessary to use a system that allows to heat and cool different areas at the same time according to the preferences of the individual users. The effectiveness of a system of this type derives from the ability to use the sub-products of cooling and heating to transfer energy where it is needed, thus acting as a balanced heat exchanger that saves up to 20% on the costs of management compared to a conventional heat pump system. Furthermore, the number of connection points necessary for an R2 / WR2 system is much lower than that required by a three-pipe system. This reduces installation costs, thus increasing the savings from the VRF CITY MULTI system.

Increased efficiency

New components have been added to improve energy-saving performance. Compared to the existing models, all the single modules in YNW Series have an improved EER.
EER of the 40kW model (PURY-EP350YNW-A) is higher by approximately 20%.

Advanced “Low Noise” function

The 'Low noise' mode can now be selected based on five different settings: 85%, 70%, 60% and 50% (values referred to ventilation speed). Noise attenuation is directly configurable from the control board of the outdoor unit (optional PAC-SC36NA connector required). The different settings can be chosen based on the installation needs (in applications with particular noise constraints). Capacity will be reduced when operating in Low Noise mode.

Static fan pressure modifiable up to 80 Pa

The static pressure of the outdoor unit fan can be set between 0-30-60 and 80 Pa allowing the unit to be installed even in positions that require a ducting of the air expelled from the fan.
There is no drop in capacity when 80Pa External Static Pressure option is enabled.

Increased single module capacity (R2)

Single modules of up to 56kW have been added to the R2-Series.
Single modules are smaller, with L modules replacing the EP400 and P450 modules, reducing installation space by approximately 29%.

Extended temperature range in cooling up to 52°C

Certain types of installation and areas with a high density of constructions can obstruct the passage of air. In very high outdoor temperature conditions and if the air expelled from the ventilator of the unit is not correctly removed, it may stagnate and increase the air temperature around the machine. Thanks to the extended temperature range up to 52°C the system can continue to operate without interruptions even in these conditions.

Automatic Pump Down Function*

CITY MULTI YNW integrates with refrigerant leak detection systems. This function allows to stop the operation on the indoor unit and return the refrigerant to the outdoor unit in the event that a refrigerant leak is detected.
*To detect refrigerant leak, a circuit that includes refrigerant leak detection sensor must be designed and prepared at site.

Maximum height difference increased up to 90 metres

Some models of outdoor units can operate with height differences of up to 90 metres without the use of optional kits and therefore no additional costs. This simplifies and makes the design more flexible even in the tallest buildings.

Smooth auto-shift start-up mode

The smooth auto-shift start-up mode is a new operation mode on the outdoor unit, which can now be selected in addition to the conventional COP Priority mode (the system operates maximising efficiency) and Capacity Priority mode (the system works by maximising the power supplied). This new operating mode allows the system to operate in Capacity Priority mode for the first 30 minutes and then switches to COP Priority mode. Thanks to this, the system speeds up the timing of the process. This mode is an advantage especially during the start-up of the air-conditioning system (for example, if the system is re-started early in the morning).

Preheat defrost operation

The new YNW outdoor units are equipped with the Preheat defrost function which increases the air supply temperature before the system performs defrosting operations. This contributes to raising the room temperature before the start of defrost operation and prevents room occupant experiencing cold draught.

Emergency function (Backup)

The combined modules of CITY MULTI outdoor units guarantee an excellent level of reliability thanks to the Emergency function (Backup), which can be easily activated by the remote control of any indoor unit in case of system malfunction. The emergency function guarantees an average cooling and heating operation of 4 hours.

Rotation function

The combined modules of the CITY MULTI outdoor units employ an automatic routine called 'Rotation Function', to guarantee a balancing of the use of outdoor units and consequently an optimal life cycle for all system components.

Self-diagnosis and maintenance

Self-diagnostic information through the use of fault codes is accessible via LED status indicators on the outdoor unit circuit board. Detailed information is available by using special Maintenance Tool software developed by Mitsubishi Electric.

Download of operating data via USB

Unlike the previous model (YLM) in which the operating data can be downloaded via a PC equipped with appropriate software (Maintenance Tool), in the new YNW units, data can be downloaded more quickly and easily with the use of a USB * data storage (USB key). It is therefore no longer necessary to bring a PC with you directly to the site where the units are installed and this represents a saving of time, and therefore costs. Through the use of the USB key, it will be possible to download the operating data with a 5-day history. Through USB * data storage it is also possible to update the software (firmware) of the outdoor unit.
* USB data storage version 2.0 can be used
